About the Norman Catts Trust

The Late Norman S.H. Catts
Norman Catts died in 1968, devoting a major part of his substantial estate to the education of Aboriginal Children in New South Wales.

Norman Catts is best known as the co-founder of the successful Catts-Patterson Advertising Agency, which began operation in 1915. He subsequently held executive positions in several chemical firms and corporations.

THE TRUST
The Norman Catts Trust Fund aims to support the schools and organizations involved in educating Aboriginal children. In particular, the Trust seeks to support Aboriginal people up to the age of 18 years in their educational activities. (Part funding can be provided for pre-school children.)

Administration:
The Trust is managed by Perpetual Trustee Company Limited and administered by The Aboriginal Education Council (AEC) (NSW) Inc. The trustees meet with representatives of the AEC to consider proposals and to ensure that expenditure is in accord with Mr Catts’ wishes.

When to Apply:
Applications may be submitted at any time by community groups, schools or individuals working to promote programs and projects which help in the education of Aboriginal children. (The committee meets several times each year, but there may be some delay in consideration of applications.)

What does the Trust support?
The committee encourages applications by those administering programs or projects which provide enjoyable and relevant educational opportunities for Aboriginal children.

Important
Due to limited funding, Trust funds cannot be used to make up deficiencies in funding from other sources. The guidelines for the Trust do not allow for donations to general funds or for the payment of salaries of those employed by other groups.

Please check that funding is not available from other departments and/or agencies before submitting an application.
