Tertiary Scholarships

Please note: No Tertiary Scholarships will be awarded in 2009, however female applicants are encouraged to apply for Margaret Ida Howie Awards.

The AEC in collaboration with Industry Partners aims to encourage NSW Indigenous Australian students to undertake tertiary studies in a NSW University. With this aim in mind, in 2008 the AEC moved into a new era by awarding Tertiary Scholarships for the duration of each degree, for a maximum of four years. Each recipient now receives $5000 each year for study related costs.

The AEC has also sought commitment from some of our sponsors to provide industry or professional work experience opportunities to enable recipients to develop on-site skills and knowledge, to enhance their degree.

In the near future the AEC hopes to establish 12 scholarships with three provided by NSW DET in support of teaching degrees.

The following awards are available to Indigenous Australian students who wish to undertake university study:

  • School Leavers Award
  • AEC Tertiary Study Awards
  • NSW Dept of Education & Training - Teaching Awards
  • Mick Young Award
  • Incentive Awards
  • Ken Brindle Awards
  • Margaret Ida Howie Awards
